ABOUT ELEMENTS: SELF-GUIDED

TEoAJ had its first run through July/August of 2011. We spent 8 weeks together creating pages that reflected our experiences with the elements of life: Earth, Air, Water, Fire and Spirit. This course has been packaged up for those of you who prefer a self-guided experience.

This class will be available for $34.95. This includes all video and PDF lessons, feedback from Jeanette House and Effy Wild, a sense of community with those who have already done the class and those who are new to the process, and a lifetime of exploration with the elements. As an added bonus, there will be four new lessons posted throughout the first year (one per season).

Some Things To Note:

This is an ‘instant gratification’ class. All materials are available from the moment you enter the classroom. Videos are not available for download on this course because they will remain available in the classroom indefinitely.

Need a little more information?

Here’s an ONSCREEN PDF  (just click to view in your browser) that’s explains the program and provides a supply list.   You’ll also find a little introduction to yours truly as well as some guidance around what the next six chapters will bring you.

Here’s a PRINTABLE PDF  (right click to save as) version for those who prefer to have hard copies of things. Please note that all the printable PDFs in this program are ink friendly, which means they aren’t as pretty as the onscreen versions.

Here’s What People Are Saying:

The Elements of Art Journaling Course has been *the* best e-course I have ever taken bar none.  I have participated as fully as I could and surprised myself at the feeling it provoked in me and the sheer amount of new skills and confidence I have gotten from it.  I suffer with MS and have had a lot of adjusting and accepting to do and thought I’d done it all til this course opened my eyes to things I didn’t even know I was feeling.  It has done more for me than all the counselling I have had and will be sharing this new found peace with my counsellor at my next appointment and this will be a fantastic grounding for all subsequent appointments.  I have managed to make life changing decisions that I have been putting off for a while with completely open eyes and confidence in what I have done.  This may not happen with everyone but isn’t it worth a try?Apart from all this Effy is an *amazing* tutor and her videos are just the best and give loads of information in an easy to understand way.  I’ve also met a wealth of wonderful knew friends who have shared their stories with me and we’ve supported each other along this path. ~Jill

I’m a fairly new art journaler and absolutely loved all the different writing assignments Effy teaches us in order to brainstorm on each element. They are great resources for life, and art journaling in general.  Not to mention the abundance of information from techniques to products that she shared in her videos.  I have truly enjoyed ever minute of this course, it is such a wonderful course to explore the elements in a whole new and different way. The writing assignments leave you with many, many more ideas to work through and create!  I am totally thrilled it is now being offered in a self-paced form, offering 4 more lessons in the upcoming year, Yay!  ~Allurynn

The Elements of art journalling course has been a really comprehensive introduction to art journalling for me as a newbie.Effy’s video’s has offered a really visual mode of learning which suits my needs really well and her abilty to connect with you and produce quality online instruction and resources enables you to take the class as it is and or extend your experience of the elements. The course delivered on so many levels for me and included something for all learning styles and abilities.Alongside this the supportive community that Effy has nurtured and her up beat and flexible style allows you the supportive space to develop as a person and as an artist. Elements is a great online course to wet your taste buds for art journalling, build your confidence in ‘being an artist’ and use journalling as a healing and personal development tool.I have learnt a lot about myself and rekindled a connection to the elements.I’ve grown in confidence with my ability to art…and have joyful gratitude to all the participants hat offerred supportive and encouraging words…Thankyou Effy and Wild Precious Escees.x  ~Carol

Elements of Art Journaling, is the first ecourse I have taken and oh boy did it really hit home just how much you could get from one course.  The run was six weeks and each week we addressed a new element, each element represented us inside each of us and any issues we had would more than likely come out through the process, its as much healing as it is about learning about yourself and how the elements fit with you.  For me water week was the week when my whole emotions came to the surface, and even though that may not sound like a great thing to have happen, it actually was, beacuse then I could work through the emotions and start the healing process.  I learned so much about myself on this course, things I didn’t know and things I wasn’t sure about, it helped me realise the path I am on is right for me, but you know what, this course was a blast, it was fun and edgy and total different outlook on the elements.

Effy really walked us through everything, so if you’re a beginner in art journaling or if you’ve been doing it years, this course will totally suit you I learned a whole range of new techniques, I now know how to layer effectively, I know how make fantastic backgrounds that I never knew how to do before, now when I open my journal I want to run my hands across the pages to feel all the different textures.  If you do this course, it may just change not only the way you journal, but it may just change your life too. ~Pixie

Here’s a video on how accessible the elements are:

Here’s a Class Description:

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Please make sure you have the following:

*A composition book or Moleskine Cahier (if you’re doing the scrap journal project) OR:

*Any other journal or altered book that you wish to use (if you’re not planning on doing the scrap journal project)

*Your art supplies in myriad forms. Whatever you like, you can use.

*An open mind and heart, and a willingness to try even those things that don’t necessarily jump out at you as being immediately interesting. If you are willing to try them, most of what I offer by way of exercises or alternative projects will bear a lot of fruit in your artistic life.

What You Can Expect
(Also known as the course syllabus)

Each class has a definite structure, and it looks something like this:

*Talky Bits Video: This video will cover what we’re going to be doing that week, what practices I’d like you to try, and some basic information on how to engage the element we’ll be working with.

*Technique Video: These will be included for three of the six weeks: Earth will cover texture, Air will cover text, and Water will cover dealing with the emo. Orientation week, Fire week and Spirit week do not include technique videos. Think of the technique videos as bonus material. It was designed for beginners, but does include information that will be relevant to advanced students as well.

*PDFs: There will be one on screen and one printable PDF per week. These PDFs are *crucial* to your understanding of the elements we’ll be working with. Skipping the PDF (which contains all the course exercises, alternative projects and suggestions for going deeper) will mean you’re not getting what you paid for. Please make sure you read the PDFs before you move on to the project videos each week.

*Supplementary word lists, clip art, and other goodies: These will be listed directly beneath the PDF files each week and will include extras that you may or may not choose to use.

*Project Videos: These will be broken up into two parts most weeks so that you are never stuck watching a video for more than 45 minutes.

*Time Lapse Project Video: This is for students who wish to skip all the instruction and get straight to the inspirational page making. These do not include any instruction whatsoever, and there are no talky bits. I recommend that even advanced students take advantage of the talky bits found in the long versions since there will be much commentary on the elements themselves and not just on the art techniques and supplies we’ll be using.

Using the materials in this order will give you the fullest experience possible. I understand, though, that some of you may be here to dip in and out of the concepts and projects, so there is no ‘requirement’ with regards to how to use the course. As long as you feel you’re getting your money’s worth, I am a happy camper! It would be really sweet of you to take some time each week to support and encourage your fellow students, comment on their work, and engage in the discussion, but this is completely optional.
